BURGLAR JAILED FOR FOUR AND A HALF YEARS AFTER STEALING CASH, JEWELLERY AND A CAR

THE SENTENCE

A burglar who stole cash, jewellery and a car during a daytime break-in in Norwich has been jailed for four years and six months.

Darren Broome, 49, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on 24 September 2026. He had admitted burglary of a dwelling in Knowsley Road, theft of a motor vehicle and attempted burglary of a dwelling.

THE DAYTIME BREAK-IN

Police were called on 14 May after a burglary while the householders were at work. As well as taking cash and jewellery, Broome stole the keys to a car parked outside the property and drove away in the vehicle.

CCTV enquiries identified Broome as the suspect. Officers arrested him in Norwich the following day. The stolen car was recovered in Great Yarmouth on 16 May.

FURTHER OFFENCES ADMITTED

While on remand, Broome cooperated with Operation Converter, the police unit that investigates further offences for courts to take into consideration.

He admitted a burglary in Esdelle Street, Norwich, on 13 May, where a games console and other property were taken. He also admitted a burglary in Cobholm, Great Yarmouth, on 15 May, involving cash, jewellery and watches.

THE IMPACT ON THE VICTIMS

Police staff investigator Darren Reade said the offences had left victims without treasured possessions and dealing with the lasting knowledge that a stranger had entered their homes. Some of the items taken held considerable sentimental value.
