The case
Connor Chapman shot outside the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey on Christmas Eve 2022. Elle Edwards was killed and other people were injured. She was not his intended target.
Evidence and court findings
The sentencing court assessed a planned, gang-related attack using a sub-machine gun in a busy public setting. Chapman was convicted of murder and offences including two attempted murders. The judge imposed three concurrent life sentences, using the murder minimum to reflect all the harm.
The sentence
On 7 July 2023 the headline minimum was 48 years, less 176 remand days. In 2024 the Court of Appeal dismissed his sentence appeal and confirmed 47 years and 189 days after credit. It described the sentence as severe but not manifestly excessive.
Sources and case status
The 2024 appeal judgment confirmed the minimum term; the sentence is life imprisonment with possible later parole consideration.
