Daryl Berman: life sentence for murdering her husband

A 2026 retrial ended with a murder conviction and a 12-year minimum term.

The case

Daryl Berman was sentenced after killing her husband, David Berman, at their home in Prestwich, Bury. He was 84. Greater Manchester Police reported the life sentence on 3 July 2026.

Evidence and court findings

Berman maintained that her husband had stumbled and fallen onto a kitchen knife. Post-mortem evidence contradicted that account. A first trial ended without a verdict in December 2025; an eight-day retrial ended on 23 June 2026 with a majority murder verdict.

The sentence

The reported minimum term was 12 years. This is a life sentence with a minimum term, rather than a fixed 12-year sentence. The police account identifies Minshull Street as the trial court.
