Fiona Beal jailed for murdering Nicholas Billingham

A guilty plea during a second trial led to life imprisonment with a 20-year minimum.

The case

Fiona Beal murdered her partner Nicholas Billingham at their Northampton home in 2021. His body was discovered in the garden in March 2022, months after the killing.

Evidence and court findings

The sentencing judge described planning, concealment and false messages suggesting that Billingham had left. A journal provided evidence about Beal’s actions. She admitted murder on 26 April 2024 during her second trial. The judge considered her personal circumstances and defence submissions alongside the aggravating features.

The sentence

The Old Bailey imposed life imprisonment on 30 May 2024. The minimum was 20 years, with 801 remand days deducted. The judge explicitly explained that this was the earliest point for a Parole Board assessment, with no promise of release.
