Tanya Petrie jailed for Bristol prison smuggling

A pharmacy technician was convicted after police intercepted drugs destined for HMP Bristol.

The case

Tanya Petrie worked as a pharmacy technician at HMP Bristol. Police observed her collecting an item from a wheelie bin in October 2023 before she went to work.

Evidence and court findings

She was detained at the prison and handed over a package containing cocaine, other drugs and tobacco. Phone analysis connected a prisoner with the person who supplied the package. Petrie also admitted an earlier trip involving SIM cards. A jury found her guilty of the Class A prohibited-article conspiracy; she had already admitted a Class B prohibited-article offence.

The sentence

Bristol Crown Court imposed six years and three months on 16 February 2026. Two other defendants had received separate sentences. The police report distinguishes their roles from Petrie’s abuse of her staff access.
