The case
Thomas Cashman pursued Joseph Nee with two firearms on 22 August 2022. Nee forced his way towards the Liverpool home of Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s family as Cashman continued firing.
Evidence and court findings
A bullet passed through the front door and Cheryl Korbel’s wrist before fatally injuring her nine-year-old daughter. Cashman was convicted of murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent and two firearms offences. The judge distinguished his intention to kill Nee from the fatal consequences for Olivia.
The sentence
Manchester Crown Court sentenced Cashman on 3 April 2023. The murder minimum was 42 years before remand credit. Other sentences ran concurrently, including a separate life sentence for attempted murder. The lead minimum reflected the total offending, with release dependent on a future risk decision.
