Inside the prison and daily life
Ashfield is a Category C prison for adult men in Pucklechurch, on the north-eastern side of Bristol. The privately operated establishment accepts men convicted of sexual offences and combines custody with education, practical training and intervention work.
Built on the site of a former remand centre, Ashfield has two main houseblocks, Severn and Avon. Each contains four wings with accommodation on the ground and first floors. The prison uses both single and shared cells.
New arrivals can spend time in an Early Days Centre before moving into the main residential wings. That stage gives prisoners an opportunity to become familiar with their surroundings and the arrangements governing daily life.
The prison's education and skills courses sit alongside interventions intended to reduce reoffending. Its training role is therefore connected to what happens after a sentence, as well as the management of people while they remain inside.
Visiting and family contact
Ashfield is run by Serco. Family and friends can use its visitor information to check social visit arrangements and its contact services to raise welfare concerns. Booking conditions and permitted items should be confirmed before making a journey.
Practical advice before you make arrangements
Use Ashfield's official page below for its current booking route, required identification, permitted items and travel instructions.
Confirm that the person is still at Ashfield and that your visit has been accepted before making travel arrangements. Ask the prison in advance about disability access, medication or children's needs.
