Inside the prison and daily life
Bronzefield is a privately operated women's prison in Ashford, Middlesex. Opened in 2004, the purpose-built establishment receives women from courts across southern England and combines secure custody with education and rehabilitation services.
Sodexo operates the prison, including custody staffing and facilities management. Its work also covers resettlement programmes, offending behaviour interventions, vocational training and industrial activity.
The prison has a separate mother and baby unit. This specialist provision recognises that some women enter custody while caring for very young children and require accommodation suited to that situation.
Education and skills development form part of the regime alongside work and rehabilitation. The prison works with outside organisations and charities to support women during their sentence and as they prepare to return to the community.
Visiting and family contact
Family and friends can use dedicated visitor information to check the types of visits available, booking arrangements, opening times and directions. Welfare concerns can be raised separately through the prison's contact arrangements.
The presence of training or support programmes describes what is offered; individual access and outcomes can vary. Anyone arranging a visit should confirm current requirements before travelling.
Practical advice before you make arrangements
Use Bronzefield's official page below for its current booking route, required identification, permitted items and travel instructions.
Confirm that the person is still at Bronzefield and that your visit has been accepted before making travel arrangements. Ask the prison in advance about disability access, medication or children's needs.
