Inside the prison and daily life
Coldingley is an adult men's prison in Woking, Surrey. As a resettlement establishment, it accepts prisoners prepared to work full-time and participate in a programme aimed at preparing them for release.
A standard prison day includes workshop employment, vocational training and education. The training centre provides classrooms and business and vocational facilities, with computing available across the provision.
Accommodation varies across the site. Some older wings use a system allowing prisoners to request access to toilet facilities, while other accommodation has in-cell toilets and showers. Refurbishment work is described for the older wings.
Prisoners have access to gym facilities and can undertake fitness qualifications. Industry-based work takes place in purpose-built workshops, linking the daily regime with practical employment skills.
Temporary release requires an individual risk assessment. It is therefore a potential part of resettlement rather than permission given automatically to everyone at the prison.
Family services offer relationship, parenting and family learning courses. New arrivals also receive an induction covering welfare, rules and contact arrangements.
