Inside the prison and daily life
Fosse Way is a Category C resettlement prison in Leicester, operated by Serco. It opened in 2023 on the site previously occupied by Glen Parva prison.
The establishment was designed around education, training and employment preparation. Its industries building contains workshops and classrooms intended to support a range of practical and academic activity.
Listed subjects include construction, woodwork, bicycle repair, lighting assembly, waste management, painting and decorating, digital and business skills, barista training and music production.
A resettlement hub forms part of the offer. Partnerships with employers and other organisations are intended to connect learning during custody with opportunities after release.
Some prisoners can gain outside work experience through release on temporary licence, subject to approval and conditions. That provides a potential link between prison training and employment in the community.
Role and background
The name Fosse Way was selected following local consultation and refers to the Roman road associated with the region.
Visiting and family contact
Family and professional visitors should use the prison's current visitor guidance to confirm booking, identification and entry rules before travelling. The establishment's newer buildings should be considered separately from evidence about how effectively services are delivered.
Practical advice before you make arrangements
Use Fosse Way's official page below for its current booking route, required identification, permitted items and travel instructions.
Confirm that the person is still at Fosse Way and that your visit has been accepted before making travel arrangements. Ask the prison in advance about disability access, medication or children's needs.
