Role and background
HMP Holme House is a men's prison in Stockton-on-Tees.
Inside the prison and daily life
Its seven residential communities include specialist provision for recovery and vulnerable prisoners. There are both single and double cells, with communal showers. Healthcare, a library, gym facilities, outdoor exercise areas and chaplaincy support form part of the site.
Education covers basic academic learning and vocational courses. Work ranges from joinery and upholstery to printing, textiles, cleaning, horticulture, waste management and computer coding. Some activities allow prisoners to gain qualifications while carrying out practical roles.
Prisoners can also pursue art, music and mentoring opportunities. These activities provide other ways to engage in structured learning alongside industrial work, academic courses and the practical tasks needed around the establishment.
Art, music and mentoring add to the learning offer. Resettlement partners help with matters including housing, employment and family support; some prisoners may qualify to apply for temporary release. Holme House therefore brings together residential care, work and preparation for a return to the community.
Visiting and family contact
Families should check visiting times, booking procedures, identification rules and support for children or disabled visitors before travelling. Those details can change. Understanding the establishment's role is useful, but it does not replace confirming the arrangements for a particular visit.

Confirm that the person is still at Holme House and that your visit has been accepted before making travel arrangements. Ask the prison in advance about disability access, medication or children's needs.
