Role and background
HMP Lincoln is a prison and young offender institution in the East Midlands for men aged 18 and over.
Inside the prison and daily life
Its four principal residential wings include dedicated accommodation for vulnerable men. The wings provide access to showers, telephones and recreational activities, with public information describing around 650 residents.
Education includes English and maths, while vocational courses cover painting and decorating and bricklaying. Tailoring, laundry and recycling activities offer opportunities to work towards recognised qualifications.
Resettlement partners include services supporting accommodation and employment. Identifying those needs before discharge matters because an application for a job may depend on other practical arrangements already being in place.
Lincoln works with partners on employment, accommodation, healthcare and support in the community. Its public regime information states that it does not operate release on temporary licence. Preparation for release therefore needs to be understood through the education, work and resettlement support available within custody and the arrangements made for the point of discharge.
Visiting and family contact
Family contact is another part of the picture. Before travelling, relatives should confirm current booking arrangements, identification requirements, accessibility support and rules on permitted items. Timetables and available services can change, so an overview should be used alongside up-to-date visiting information.

Confirm that the person is still at Lincoln and that your visit has been accepted before making travel arrangements. Ask the prison in advance about disability access, medication or children's needs.
