Wandsworth

Visiting and family contact

Wandsworth is a men's prison in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Its accommodation includes single and shared cells across five main wings, with other buildings housing visits, education, workshops, sports facilities and a library. These different areas are part of the establishment's everyday operation.

New arrivals receive an induction covering health, wellbeing, prison rules and contact with people outside custody. PACT provides information and support for families. Anyone planning a visit should confirm the current booking and identification requirements, including arrangements for children and accessibility, before travelling.

Anyone arranging a visit should check the latest booking rules, identification requirements and accessibility arrangements before travelling. Education and work described here are provision offered, rather than a guarantee of individual access or outcomes.

Inside the prison and daily life

Learning opportunities described for the prison include English, maths, IT, English for speakers of other languages, barbering, catering, bicycle repair, horticulture, construction and radio production. Other activities include music, choir work, embroidery, parenting and employability skills. Work is also available within the prison.

Reading support includes peer mentoring through the Shannon Trust. Resettlement partners offer help with employment preparation, housing and other needs. These services can address different obstacles to rebuilding a stable life, but their presence is not a guarantee that everyone receives the same level of support.
